Poetry
I’ve always been a poetry scribbler.
And a terrible journal keeper. I have a pile of notebooks and journals with lots of entries for January, and then…nothin’. It’s the one New Year’s Resolution I’ve never been able to keep.
It’s no accident, then, that my most successful “journals” have been kept in poetry form. For some reason, I’m much more interested in recording my days if I can figure out how to do it in a more metaphorical way.
I’m also a songwriter.
I have been since I was a teenager, when one of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils taught me how to play guitar and showed me how to restructure my poems so that they were actually songs.
Tangles is a collection of poems that function a bit like songs on the page.
You’ll hear your own melody lines as you read through these poems. You’ll feel a beat. Maybe even get the itch to pick up your own guitar.
